Who's running this thing?

Every summer, the youth ministry of Austin Chinese Church hosts Youth Retreat, which has been running since 1995, for students in Austin and Central Texas. The youth pastor, year-round youth ministry counselors, and church members come together to invite middle and high school students to have an amazing experience with each other and encountering God through Scripture, discussions, and fun activities.

Where are we going?

We will be staying at Forest Glen. Forest Glen’s address is: 34 Forest Glen Huntsville, TX 77340 and their phone number is (936) 295-7641. You can find more information about the site at Forest Glen's website. (link - https://www.forestglen.org/retreats/north-shore)

What is the campsite like?

Campers will be staying in cabins filled with bunk beds. There the students and counselors stay together in each cabin. Bathrooms and showers are inside the cabin. The cabins are air conditioned and water coolers are placed all over the retreat site in order to help with keeping everyone hydrated. There is a large meeting hall for our large-group sessions, a dining hall, and plenty of open outdoor space for activities. There are tons of options for free-time activities including swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, rockwall, ziplining, archery, and more!

What happens if there’s an emergency? How do I contact my parent/child?

For emergencies, parents please contact the camp at (936)295-7641 and the camp will inform the counselor and the student. If a student has an emergency, please find and tell your counselor immediately.

What if English isn’t my primary language?

Please indicate this on your registration form. We are striving to ensure Mandarin translation is available.

What do I do if I have allergies/medical conditions?

Please indicate this on your registration forms then let your counselor and retreat medical officer know in advance.

I’m not a Christian, can I go to retreat?

Of course you can! You'll have a chance to make some new friends and hear about a guy who is really important to your Christian friends. You can ask questions or just have a good time with people who care about you.

I have my license, can I drive to retreat?

No, for your safety, all students must ride the bus to and from retreat. This is for your own safety, plus, you get to meet people!

Can I come visit my friends at retreat?

Why not just come to retreat instead? If you're not eligible to come to retreat, then no, you may not come up to visit.

Can I choose my roommates/small group/counselor?

Sorry, unfortunately, no.

What do I need to bring?

We’ve got just the packing list for you! (link PDF)

What should I not bring?

Please do not bring things that are dangerous to yourself, others, or the retreat property - fireworks, firearms, illegal substances like tobacco or alcohol. The retreat requires a certain dress code, so you will want to avoid bringing swimsuits or clothing that breaks the dress code. We also ask that you leave those things that can distract from retreat at home. If in doubt about whether or not you should bring something, ask Dominic.

Can I bring my cell phone/iPad/electronic device(s)?

It is our hope that camp will be a chance for you to make new friends, get away from your usual distractions and habits, and perhaps get a chance to interact with God. Sometimes our devices can get in the way of this. Counselors and staff will take devices that prove to be distracting to you or others.

What’s the dress code?

Our retreat policy is that campers and counselors dress modestly; this can mean many things, so here are some general guidelines (these apply to both males and females):

  • Shirts should cover midriff

  • Shorts should cover appropriate areas

  • Swimwear should be modest and have appropriate coverage

Dress code will be subject to counselors and/or retreat staff discretion and may require students to change. More questions? Contact Dominic.

Can I come late/leave early?

We prefer you to be at retreat the entire time. However, if there is a unique circumstance, Please note it on your registration and let the director know.

That’s a lot of money...

And that's not a question. But we understand that things might be tight right now. Scholarships are available for those who require financial assistance. Please contact Dominic for more information.

What if I register and then decide not to go?

If you register for retreat and then choose not to go, we grant full refunds up until the regular registration deadline. This year, the deadline for receiving registrations is July 6. After the registration deadline, no refunds will be offered.
